The end of this year is getting closer day by day, and I wanted tell you how things are going with the guild!
First, there are important things to know: The materials sold by the guild have been moved to TUTLab. After the guild’s materials are sold out, TUTLab will sell their own foam boards. Until then, everything stays kind of the same: as international students who may not have a Finnish bank account, you can buy the materials with cash. So visit TUTLab, ask for the materials and pay them there! As the situation changes, we will let you know!
There will be some changes also with the workplace downstairs. The aim is to have a room for putting models together and extra working space for art courses. All of the work which needs tools will be located at TUTLab. More info about these changes are coming soon, I hope.
Next spring the guild will become a registered association. This means new guild rules and a constitutive meeting, but otherwise the guild will continue as it has before.
This year we have aimed to make the guild more open and transparent. This is the direction that will determine the guild also in the future. The guild is happy to receive feedback, which you can give face-to-face to the board members and officials, by attending the board meetings, leaving your notes to the white feedback box or sending the chairman email. Maybe the guild will release the list of the board decisions not only at weekly briefing but also at the website. Be active, your opinion is valued – the guild is our common thing, and everyone is welcome to develop the guild!
And before I am done, I would like to thank the people who have been there with me running this guild:
Thank you, my vice-chairman Iitu, for the help and support you have given me throughout this whole year. Thanks for getting my back straight at drawing halls every time I instead of zooming the picture lean closer to the computer forgetting everything about the working ergonomics. And thanks for the guest lectures and continuing my legacy with them!
Thank you, our secretary and communications official Veera, for getting up for almost every morning meeting and for sending every week the briefing!
Thanks, our fuksi captain Annukka for taking care of our fuksis with Kia. Thanks for cheering up all of us by bringing your dog Kaapo occasionally to our board meeting!
Thank you, our treasurer Jasmin, for taking care of the finances of the guild. It is such a joy seeing you with all the great new ideas concerning the guild!
Thank you, our hostess Ria, for all the delicacies and especially the last chocolate cookies. You have created a very well-functioning system for the coffee service, and we owe you a big thank you for bringing oat milk a part of the coffee moments at guild!
Thanks, our corporate relations official Janne, for all the sponsor contracts you have closed. You have given the guild some horizontal continuity especially in the mornings after a party.
Thank you, our events official Ama, for arranging the wappu event of the guild and many other happenings for us! Thanks for the autumn flee market and especially its poster that may be reused next year (if the next board will accept this kind of challenge…)
Thank you, our SAFA and TEK official Anssi, for giving our young board some perspective and encouragement throughout the year. You have become a sort of our board’s mascot (I may be referring to the first Pre-Christmas party and its posters).
Thank you, our international official Aura, for having been one hundred percent dedicated in helping our international students. Your smile and messages sent to board WhatsApp chat have cheered up all of us in this dark winter time.
Thank you, our student advocacy official Aura, for arranging the feedback day with the department of architecture and bringing EASA, the European Architecture Student Assembly, closer to our guild.
Thank you, our excursion official Heini, for the awesome trip to the Eastern Finland, where I originally come from. Thanks for the sitsit in Lappeenranta – hopefully I will recover by the next excursion.
Thank you, our website official Helmi, for keeping the guild on display in media. We must find a proper follower for you, who can keep up the standards in guild’s social media posts.
I could thank our host Iida for, let’s say, the clean guild room or the new television, but I will thank her for always laughing at my jokes. I feel less lonely nowadays.
Thank you, our editor-in-chief Jaakko, for the amazing magazines Arkkitehtiopiskelijalehti and Lagerstammsbladet. You have done a good job – the magazines have had both a very beautiful layout and some high-standard and professional articles.
Thank you, our art director Jesse, for creating a unique and inspiring design for every guild event. You have also found a way to illustrate my personal dream for one overall badge, which will be sold next year by the guild.
Thank you, our corporate relations official Joel, for the business fair and especially for the guild’s brand new beer pong table (and the victory in the first ever played game against you!) I am happy to hand over the guild to you next year!
Thank you, our alumni official Kaisa, for taking the guild to the next level when it comes to TUT architects! We have now our own alumn email list and Facebook group, and you leave your follower in a good place to go on!
Thank you, the guild official photographer Kalle, for capturing the moments of this year! My own special favourite of your pictures is the arch-pyramid which shows both the joy and the perfect shape all in one photo.
Thank you, our fuksi official Kia, for taking such a good care of our fuksis. And thanks for your dedication at the architect student weekend in Oulu – in this guild, you will always be ‘the thing’ for us.
Thank you, our Kondrad Krista, for keeping up the traditions and for recommending the guild history to me last year. Without history there will be no future - maybe we old ones will try to offer our help when it comes to arranging the fiftieth annual party of the guild at 2020.
Thank you, our guild godmother Kultsi - you are truly one of us in your heart, and you are proud to show it! Thanks for the extra information in our group discussions and for the annual party present the student union gave to the guild – it was verytortilla containing.
Thank you, our sitsi official Laura, for all the sitsi parties this year! Especially I thank you for introducing the guild to the seniors of Finnish high school with me. The guild is proud to have you as a teekkari ambassador!
Thanks, our sports official Laura, for bringing the guild to the next level with the sports events! Thanks for the renewal of the kyykkä set, the visit to Flowpark and the sports super week, to name a few!
Thank you, our blacksmith Lauri, for communicating with TUTLab and the improvent ideas concerning our workspace downstairs. Without your expertise, this development would have been very little, and hopefully we have gotten our message through to our department and TUT!
Thank you Maiju, our material official, who was also responsible for the annual party of the guild this year. You have taken care of the selling of the materials so well making sure that nobody is left without – just before the deadlines.
Thank you, our culture official Maria, especially for the visit to the old-age home that you and Venla arranged. It is such a pleasure hearing you lead our singing at sitsit, and because of you we have now some more unfamiliar architecture student songs in our sitsiläsy!
Thank you, our ex-treasurer and so called markka Marianna, you have been the best support for me and Jasmin when it comes to handling the guild’s finances. You are always happy to help, and I might turn to you also later in life. I am so very happy that you will arrange the annual party for TamArk next year!
Thank you, our architect day official Sanna, you have taken care of not only your area of responsibility but also helped almost every other guild officials! And you have really invigorated the board group chat with your own personal writing style!
Also: thank you, guild members, who have participated the guild events and made an effort in order to help the board. Especially thanks to Anna Kobierska, who has been helping me with the Finland100/SAFA125 event planning and helped the board with other little things (such as moving the materials to TUTLab). Thank you Konsta Ryösä for taking such great photos at guild events! Thank you, teams behind the organizing the excursion, the fuksis’ overalls, and AO and LB magazines! And thank you all the other lovely people with whom my board and I have gotten to spend this amazing year!
My heart is filled with gratitude and love for this family of ours. A sincere thank you for the trust and for this year. Have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year,
your chairman Verna
