​What is the UNICEF Walk?

The UNICEF Walk (Unicef-kävely in Finnish) is a long-standing charity event especially familiar to many Finnish people from their primary school years. It is a tradition in Finnish schools where children walk or run to raise money for UNICEF, collecting donations from family members, friends, or other sponsors based on how many laps they complete. The event promotes children’s rights globally and encourages participation in charity through fun and movement.

Now, TamArk brings this familiar event to university students – with the same great goals, but in overalls and sneakers! 

 

Join the walk – do good, feel good!

Put on your overalls and comfy shoes, and join us for a feel-good walk! TamArk is organizing the traditional UNICEF Walk, combining exercise, togetherness, and charity. We’ll walk through the springtime streets of Hervanta and raise funds for UNICEF – every step supports children’s rights around the world. This year, our collaboration supports children’s education in Nepal. Once again, Intersport Koskikeskus is on board, offering an awesome prize to the most active participant!

How do I participate? How do I get the Teemunkierros stamp? 

​

To participate, collect your UNICEF pass from the starting point and listen to the walking route instructions. The walk is completed on a marked route – feel free to choose your own pace and style! Once you return to the finish line, you’ll get a sticker in your UNICEF pass as proof of your completed round. You can walk as many rounds as time allows (and don't forget our walking contest!). You’ll get the Teemunkierros stamp by showing the Wappu team a UNICEF pass with at least one sticker.  At the starting point, you can also request an alternative way to complete Teemunkierros for participants with limited mobility! 

 

Sponsoring, donating, and entering the raffle!

Fundraising for the UNICEF Walk is based on sponsorship agreements made by walkers (students) with someone like a grandparent, godparent, or friend. The idea is simple: you agree with your sponsor that they’ll donate, for example, €0.50 per round you complete. Donating at the event is voluntary, but if you want to support UNICEF’s mission, ask your sponsor to join in advance!

By donating, you’ll also get to enter a raffle sponsored by our amazing partners. You can enter by showing proof of your donation from the UNICEF website or by donating cash at the event’s finish line.

Walking Contest

The UNICEF Walk also features a walking contest sponsored by Intersport Koskikeskus & Lielahti! The participant who walks (or runs) the most rounds will receive a pair of shoes of their choice from the Intersport selection!  To enter, all rounds must start at the official finish area and be completed along the marked route. If you’re interested in taking part, let the organizers know so we can track your progress and collect your contact info at the end of the day!
